Journey into the world of a Japanese artist dwelling in Poland, where the spirit of Europe and the soul of Japan entwine—each stroke a quiet pursuit of beauty beyond borders.
At 90 years old, Koji Kamoji is a Japanese artist who has lived and worked in Poland since the 1960s. Now, for the first time, his works return to Japan in a deeply personal and poetic exhibition.
Featuring 80 drawings and 3 installation pieces, this exhibition traces Kamoji’s artistic journey shaped by his migration from Japan to Poland, as well as the emotional echoes of personal and historical tragedies. At the same time, his work delves into the spiritual and philosophical roots of European abstraction, in search of the essence of life, nature, and the unseen forces that shape our world.
Through minimalist repetition, quiet concentration, and a meditative sense of space, Kamoji captures the intangible: the character of water, the presence of air, and the vastness of emptiness. His practice is not just about making art, but about intuitively connecting with the nature of existence itself.
Titled “Don’t Let the Unnecessary Overshadow the Whole,” this exhibition reflects Kamoji’s lifelong pursuit of simplicity, clarity, and transparency — a vision that invites viewers to see beyond the surface and into the heart of things.
