Discover the Force of Nature in the Art of Japan’s Emerging Voices.
This exhibition, centered on the themes of “coexistence with nature” and “the direction of life”, showcases the work of six contemporary Japanese artists. These themes are deeply rooted in traditional Japanese sensibilities.
Since ancient times, the Japanese have cultivated a profound respect for nature—revering its beauty while acknowledging its formidable power. The rhythm of the seasons and the cycles of nature have long shaped Japanese culture, aesthetics, and daily life, giving rise to a unique appreciation of impermanence and subtle beauty.
The six featured artists explore the intrinsic connection between nature and human existence, drawing from this inherited relationship to inform their creative practices. Their works incorporate materials such as driftwood, discarded cardboard, and nikawa (a natural glue obtained by one artist while hunting). Each piece represents a dialogue with these materials, capturing a moment of harmony between the human hand and the natural world.
Though the expressions vary in form and medium, the works collectively point in a shared direction—inviting viewers to reflect on our relationship with nature. They urge us to reconsider how we live our daily lives, especially in light of ongoing environmental challenges and climate change.
