“Travel the World with Kiss Me Perfume” at Isehan Beni Museum

Know and Try Japanese traditional makeup beauty culture.

Discover the allure of Beni—a traditional Japanese rouge crafted from the vibrant petals of the Beni Hana flower. Step into the world of Isehan Beni, a celebrated legacy from the Edo era, where the museum not only reveals the intricate techniques of Beni production but also brings to life the rich tapestry of Japanese beauty culture.

In the interactive Experience Zone, you can try applying Beni on your lips and witness firsthand the mesmerizing transformation this historic color brings—blending art with a dash of science.

Derived from the radiant Beni Hana flower, this stunning red pigment was once prized for dyeing luxurious garments, enhancing makeup, and even coloring culinary delights. This exhibit takes you on a journey from flower to finished product, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship behind Beni and the vibrant cultural traditions it inspired, including the graceful performances of Edo-era Geisha.

Explore authentic Edo-era makeup tools and vintage printing materials that illustrate the evolution of Japanese beauty—from the iconic red for lips and cheeks to the subtle white powders and bold black accents that defined the era.

Additionally, be sure to visit the special showcase featuring Isehan’s “Kiss Me” perfume produced in 1950. This seductive fragrance not only embodied its packaging and advertising appeal, but also stirred dreams of overseas travel in people for whom such travel was once a distant fantasy.
