Discover the evolution of Japanese remarkable artist, Yosuke Amemiya through sculptures, video works, and a new VR piece.
This special exhibition offers a comprehensive look into the artistic evolution of Yosuke Amemiya, tracing his work from its origins to the present day.
Born in 1975, Amemiya honed his craft through studies in both Japan and Amsterdam, shaping a unique artistic voice that transcends mediums. His diverse body of work spans drawings, sculptures, performance art using his own body, and video installations—each exploring the boundaries of expression in compelling ways.
Visitors will experience a curated selection of Amemiya’s works, beginning with pieces from the early 2000s, including the evocative Melted Apple Sculpture and a series of documentary videos. The exhibition also features his latest creation—a VR video, filmed on-site at the Watari-um Museum of Contemporary Art during the exhibition’s setup, offering an immersive glimpse into his creative process.
Adding a dynamic, interactive element, Open Practice for the Artist’s Last Work will take place every Saturday evening throughout the exhibition. This rare opportunity allows audiences to step into Amemiya’s workspace and witness the artist in action, shaping his final piece before their eyes.
